This past weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Black Book Block Party hosted by Cozy Girl’s Book Club — and let me just say, the energy in that space was unmatched.
From the moment I walked in, it felt like community. Not just readers. Not just authors. But Black entrepreneurs, creatives, visionaries, and storytellers all in one building, supporting each other in real time. As an indie author who has been consistently showing up for my book Muse: Brown Skin – A Dangerous Kind of Love, moments like this remind me exactly why I keep going.
One of the highlights of my day?
Restocking my book at Apt 105 Bookstore.
And listen… when I tell you she SOLD OUT within the hour — I mean that with my whole chest.
Seeing readers walk up, pick up my book, flip through the pages, and make the decision to support an indie author in person was surreal. As someone who balances being a full-time accountant, a mom, and a self-published author, those moments hit different. They’re not just sales. They’re confirmations that the story is resonating.
The vibe of the Black Book Block Party was beautiful.
Black-owned brands. Black authors. Black readers. Black excellence everywhere.
There were tables full of creativity, conversations about books and healing, and genuine support that you don’t always find online. It felt intentional. It felt powerful. It felt like culture.
What I loved most was being surrounded by so many talented Black entrepreneurs who are building their brands boldly and unapologetically. Events like this are more than pop-ups — they are ecosystems of growth, visibility, and legacy.
Huge thank you to the amazing hosts and community:
