Muse: Brown Skin - A Dangerous Kind Of Love by Geri Cohen Biddy
Praise
This book had me in a chokehold. From page one, I was pulled straight into the danger, the passion, and the messiness of it all. It’s not just a love story—it’s that raw, obsessive, “I know better but I can’t stop” type of love that so many of us can relate to.
What made it stand out to me is how realistic it felt. We’ve all wasted love and energy on someone who didn’t deserve it, and Geri Cohen Biddy captured that experience so well. The emotions in this book are gritty, relatable, and almost too real at times.
I devoured this book in one sitting—under 2.5 hours—because I couldn’t put it down. The writing is sharp and addictive, the pacing never drags, and it’s the type of story that leaves you both frustrated and satisfied all at once.
I’m so grateful I discovered Geri Cohen Biddy. She’s an indie author who deserves all the support, and I’ll be keeping my eye out for everything else she puts out. If you want a book that’s raw, passionate, and painfully relatable, this is the one.
A Masterclass in Emotional Whiplash
GCB’s Muse is a rare and potent literary experience, one that should come with a warning label for emotional intensity. Far from offering a predictable narrative arc, this book operates as an emotional roller-coaster, challenging the reader’s equilibrium from the first chapter to the last.
The defining characteristic of Muse is its sheer, contradictory power over the reader. GCB navigates the full emotional gamut with relentless skill, provoking immediate and often conflicting responses. The plot's darker, frustrating moments are rendered with such urgency that the desire to process the narrative tension becomes almost physical—a kind of literary exasperation where one feels the impulse to toss the book across the room in protest of the unfolding drama.
Yet, this intense frustration is immediately tempered by moments of profound beauty and sharp wit. The rapid shifts in tone are expertly managed, transitioning seamlessly from scenes that compel an immediate need to laugh out loud to those that are genuinely heartbreaking. This unpredictable dynamic is a testament to GCB’s command of character and pacing. Muse is a story so vivid and all-consuming that it requires the reader to confront both joy and anguish, making it a demanding but ultimately unforgettable read. This book doesn't just ask for attention; it commandeers your feelings, leaving you exhausted, exhilarated, and in awe of its chaotic energy.
This book was a six star read for me one of the best books. I read all year. This book touched me down to my very soul. I’m so blessed to be able to be an art reader for this book and I can’t wait for the second book to come out. This book touched me in places that I didn’t think was possible. This book made me feel all the feels I cried. I felt so deeply. I also felt. I was reading my life that I lived for the last 14 years. It made me want to work harder on my healing journey and continue to find the self I know I could be. I want to think to Arthur for choosing me and writing such a wonderful book. I am so grateful.
