There are moments in your journey that remind you why you kept going, even when the path wasn't easy. My first book signing at Barnes & Noble in Bowie, Maryland was one of those moments.
Before the event, I was told to bring 10 to 20 copies of my book, Muse: Brown Skin β A Dangerous Kind of Love. While I appreciated the recommendation, something in my spirit told me to prepare for more. I packed 40 books and hoped for the best.
By the end of the signing, I had only six books left.
Seeing readers walk away with my memoir, hearing their stories, and meeting so many people who connected with Muse was an experience I'll never forget. Every conversation reminded me why I wrote this book in the first place. What began as my personal healing journey has become a story that continues to resonate with readers from all walks of life.
As incredible as the book sales were, the biggest moment of the day happened after the event.
The Barnes & Noble team invited me back to participate in their Fall Local Author Event, an opportunity to continue introducing Muse to new readers in the community.
Then they shared something I never expected.
When my second book, Mirage: Healing After the Illusion, is released, they want me to return and host my own dedicated book signing event.
That invitation meant the world to me. For an independent author, being asked back is an honor. Being invited to host your own event for your next release is a vote of confidence that your work is making an impact.
Just a short time ago, I was balancing a career in accounting while writing during every spare moment I had. Today, I'm a full-time author building the career I once only dreamed about.
This experience reminded me of something I've learned over and over again: prepare for the blessing you're praying for. Had I only brought 20 books, I would have sold out much earlier. Instead, I trusted my instincts and came prepared.
To everyone who attended, purchased a copy, shared encouraging words, or simply stopped by my table, thank you. Your support continues to make this journey possible.
This is only the beginning.
I'll see you again this fall at Barnes & Noble, and I can't wait to celebrate the release of Mirage with all of you.
With gratitude,
Geri Cohen Biddy
